Looks like,
controversies around Vivek Oberoi led Narendra Modi biopic ain’t dying down any
time soon. After Javed Akhtar slammed makers for wrongly associating his name
with the film, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) General Secretary Shalini
Thackeray has demanded a ban on the film.
According to
the makers, on public demand, Narendra Modi biopic’s release date was preponed
from April 11 to April 5, 2019, just a few days before the Lok Sabha elections
begin. But MNS leader Shalini Thackeray has openly opposed the release of the
film and had said if it hits theatres before Lok Sabha elections, MNS will
retaliate in their style.
Quoting
Maharashtra Times, a report in Times NOW states, “The party’s general secretary
Shalini Thackeray was quoted saying that during MNS Gudhi Padwa meeting last
year, party chief Raj Thackeray alleged that BJP had sponsored and arranged
funds for Akshay Kumar’s films like Toilet Ek Prem Katha and Padman, for
promoting government scheme’s indirectly. It is not even a year to this
instance, that BJP has once again done something likewise. She then demanded to
impose a ban on the release of the Narendra Modi biopic. She further added that
songs for the film are penned by renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar and Samir, as the
same is mentioned on the official poster of the film, but in reality there is
no truth to this, as both the lyricist just recently denied the same on social
media platforms and cleared they had written no songs for the film.”
Meanwhile,
talking about the song credit row related to the film, this morning, we
reported about the veteran lyricist, Javed Akhtar not being convinced enough
with producer, Ssandip Singh's explanation over using the his name in his film.
He termed their intentions as "wrong" while wife Shabana Azmi said it
was a deliberate attempt to credit Akhtar in the film.
